“ Small, local and friendly. Truly one of the best cafe on the whole island of Achill, and definitely worth visiting. Standing on the shoulders of a giant, Formerly Kate's Cafe. It certainly, hopefully does them proud. Oh I believe it's pronounced Alf by Megs. The food is truly great here, but I don't know which is better lunch or breakfast. The breakfasts serve all the usual suspects, but the winner for us was the spanish breakfast. A very mildly spiced sort of salad with Chorizo sausage, topped with a fried egg. I am not doing the dish description justice, so believe me when I highly recommend it. The only criticism I have, is the fried potatoes, they would be better either as sauteed or wedges. And maybe a poached egg as a slightly healthy version. The smoky chorizo was in very generous portions and added a complementary flavour to the salad. And I say spiced salad, as I am not sure of the best way to describe, my wife ordered, so I just picked at it. It was more a pickled flavour of courgette, onions and peppers. Strange and something you don't normally see, but it was something we would eat again...and again. The lunches are also great, perhaps it's the selection of tempting cakes always on offer. Bad for you, but so good. I really judge a place by is carrot cake, because it's very common and also can go so wrong. Glad to report all their deserts are too tempting. Also note worthy was the flavoured can drinks. The watermelon and pink lemonade was really sweet and delicious for a rare summer's day. And the iced coffee was also delicious and recommend. For lunch we had the Cesar salad and the Bacon Brie Panini both worthy of a try. And certainly would go back to those dishes, but would love to go back and try other options. ”

“ Really lovely and very busy little cafe with great coffee, hot chocolates and fabulous cakes (we can highly recommend the rocky road, carrot cake and lemon meringue pie). Well worth the drive from Keem beach for a warm up post dip! Not able to comment on th view as the mist was down but expect this would be lovely if you could see across the Atlantic to the mountains beyond. ”

“ Not a very friendly man on the till never even said to hello just told me I couldn't take a seat as I needed to place my order first. Only for the lovely blonde girl who told my husband to take a seat I was very tempted to walk out. After that bad experience the food was excellent really lovely scrambled egg toast and coffee. My husbands breakfast was good too. All the other staff seemed friendly. Maybe he was having a bad morning ”
“ I stopped in for a quick lunch, and was pleasantly surprised to see calamari on the menu. I ordered that, and it came with a side salad, which was topped with a flavorful creamy dressing. The calamari was cooked perfectly, and the salad was a nice fresh side. I will stop in again when I’m in the area and try one of their yummy looking desserts. UPDATED January 2, 2025 I’ve had the pleasure of eating here many times in the past almost two months I’ve been in Achill. The food is always delish, the atmosphere is typical Irish friendly, and the coffee is excellent. They served Christmas dinner take away, and it was one of the best Christmas dinners I’ve had. The turkey was moist and flavorful, the ham was delicious and the sides were plentiful and very good. I’ve gotten to know Pat and Alec a little and enjoy chatting with them every time I’m in. I look forward to returning to Achill and enjoying a meal at The Aleph again soon. ”
